UDUPI: Udupi district, which stood first in Karnataka in recording 89.53% in SSLC results last year, has slipped to the third place on Monday recording 87.68%. Out of the 16,133 (8092 boys, 8041 girls) students who appeared for the exam held in April, 14,145 (6725 boys, 7420 girls) cleared the exam.
However, when considering the result of students who appeared for the first time, Udupi stands first in the state. Out of 15,323 students who were first timers 14,007 passed recording a pass percentage of 91.41. Out of those who took the exam privately, 138 (out of 810) students passed- a pass per centage of 17.04%.
In all 55 schools in the district recorded cent per cent result, of which 14 are government schools, six are aided schools and 35 are unaided schools. The government schools in the district that recorded cent per cent include: Government High School, Nallur, Government high school, Kavady, Government high school, Indiranagar, Government high school, Kanajaru, St Marys High School, Kannarpady, Venkataramana High School, Kundapur, V K Acharya High School, Kundapur.
As many as 43 government schools, 93 aided schools, 38 unaided schools recorded above 80% result, while Government high School in Malar recorded below 40% result.
Mahima H, daughter of Bhaskar Kedilaya and N Laxmidevi and a student of Viveka Girls' High School Kota, secured 619 marks and emerged as the topper in the district. Mahima dedicated her achievement to her parents and teacher who she said supported her through out. She said that she wants to be doctor in future.
Among English medium schools, Sandip Rao Koradkal of St Marys English Medium high school, Udupi topped in the district scoring 618 marks. While Srinidhi Shetty of Sri Madhbhuvanendra high school, Karkala secured the second place(617 marks), Sumedha of Venkataramana English Medium High School, Karkala came third with 615 marks.
Dr Shrisha Rao, said that he wanted to be a neurologist. Sandip had bagged the State Youth Scientist Award in 2012.
An excited Srinidhi S Shetty said, "I am happy and cannot believe that I secured second rank in the district. I want to be a doctor in future."
